Ricardo Ferreira and Sabrina Crisóstomo Under-10 Champions | Laura Santos and Santiago Dias win in Under-12

Today, 26th June 2024, the new National Champions were defined at the Under-10 and Under-12 levels. Among the youngest, Sabrina Ribeiro Crisóstomo (Vilamoura) and Ricardo Castro Ferreira (Estoril) won. In the Under-12s, the best were Laura Santos (Porto Santo) and Santiago Dias (Miramar).
Santo Estêvão Golfe hosted the National Youth Championships at the Under-10 and Under-12 levels, with the participation of 50 young athletes. Today the second rounds of the competition took place, with the youngest playing holes 1 to 9 of the course designed by Donald Steel and the Under-12s playing the 18 holes of the course.
In the Women's Under-10 competition, Sabrina Ribeiro Crisóstomo (Vilamoura) is the new National Champion. After making 36 strokes (PAR) yesterday, today she delivered a card with 39 (+3). The new National Vice-Champion is Catarina Loureiro (Paredes), who today overtook Marta Mendes (CityNorte).
In the Under-10 Boys, the leader after the first round, Ricardo Castro Ferreira (Estoril), confirmed his advantage today. After yesterday setting a new record in the “Front Nine” of the field (playing from the purple brands), with 29 shots (-7), today he registered 33 (-3). Afonso Ribeiro Lima (Estela) became National Vice-Champion.
At this level, the presence of a player of just six years old (!), Rafael Ribeiro Crisóstomo (Vilamoura), who finished 14th among the 18 participants, deserves mention.
In the Under-12 Women's category, the representative of Porto Santo Golfe Laura Santos became Champion, while the title of Vice-Champion went to Alice Costa Mendes (CityNorte). However, as happened in the 2022 and 2023 editions of the Under-10 competition, the lowest results were obtained by Rachel Li (Estoril), who concluded the competition with an aggregate result of 164 strokes (+18). However, as the young golfer has Chinese nationality, she cannot be crowned National Champion, given that, according to the Legal Regime of Sports Federations (Decree-Law 248-B, of 2008, in its article 62, no. 2), “they can only , in the case of individual modalities, titles will be awarded to national citizens”.
In the Men's Under-12 competition, the new two-time National Champion is Santiago Dias (Miramar), who joins this title to that of 2023, as well as that of the Under-10 category, obtained in 2022. After yesterday having set the new field record from the red marks – with 71 strokes (-2) -, today he completed the round with 74 (+1). Martim Moreira (Belas) became National Vice-Champion.
